HEALTH CARE ,EDUCATION, FOOD SECURITY AND YOUTH EMPLOYMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

The Foundation

Our Mission

The Galuni Foundation is dedicated to fostering sustainable development in Africa, putting people at the centre of each initiative. The Foundation strives to accomplish this goal by increasing access to primary health care and to education, by improving food security and promoting youth employment and entrepreneurship.

Our work

Where we work

The Galuni Foundation is currently working in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where it runs different projects to guarantee better access to primary health care, education and nutritious food for as many people as possible. Whilst striving to achieve these goals, the Galuni Foundation is also trying to address poverty and youth unemployment through entrepreneurially focused initiatives.

Education

Education is the cornerstone of sustained development. This is why the Galuni Foundation is trying to get as many children as possible back to school and to improve their education by constructing new schools as well as renovating existing ones. It is also committed to improving teaching through better training. Furthermore, the Galuni Foundation’s top priority in Education is to allow African pupils the same access to knowledge as other pupils around the world, through the intense use of new digital technologies.

SECAL

Food security is a key human right and a fundamental requirement for poverty alleviation and sustainable development, so it is natural that the Galuni Foundation has projects in this area. To insure that everybody is able to get enough healthy food to be well and active, we promote the creation of marketing boards. Through these organisations, producers guarantee food security by increasing the scale of their production. By collaborating they increase their bargaining strength regarding costs and distribution and no longer have to worry about fluctuating prices.

Health

The human right to health care means that hospitals, clinics, medicines, and doctors’ services must be accessible, available, acceptable, and of good quality for everyone, on an equitable basis, where and when needed. That’s the reason why the Galuni Foundation is working on improving the management of hospitals, the training of medical staff and the acquisition of relevant medical equipment. The Foundation is also investing in the production of pharmaceuticals and quality medicines to ensure access to those who need them. In terms of healthcare, the goal of the Galuni Foundation is to ensure *that everyone has access to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental healthcare.

Entrepreneurship

The world economy and employment markets are changing and the 21st century will not be like the last. Millions of young Africans can no longer hope to be hired by big companies and spend their entire careers there. They must be prepared to adapt to this changing world, and therefore, need to be given the tools to succeed.

This is why the Galuni Foundation promotes youth entrepreneurship initiatives which will raise living standards by creating decent jobs, the cornerstone for any inclusive development.

Dr Oly ILUNGA KALENGA

Dr Oly ILUNGA KALENGA is the Founder and Chairman of the Galuni Foundation, which he established in early 2016 to unlock the potential of African people and foster the sustainable development of the continent.

Congolese-born Dr ILUNGA has a distinguished medical career. From January 2013 to December 2016, he worked as the Managing Director of the Europe Hospitals, the largest private hospital group in Brussels. In 1990, at the age of 30, he completed a double specialisation; the first in internal medicine, plus a doctorate in public health and epidemiology. His goal was to go back to DRC after his degrees to teach at the University of Kinshasa, but the political instability forced him to revise his plans.

After his PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology, he obtained an MBA from the IAG-Louvain School of Management (UCL), with a specialisation in Health economics. Then, in 1993 he accepted an offer from the Europe Hospitals to help open the new Heart surgery unit at the St. Elizabeth site. In 1996, he was appointed Head of the Intensive Care Unit and four years later Medical Director at the Saint Michel site. There he rebuilt the new hospital building and reorganised the management. Since the year 2000, Dr. Ilunga has worked as an external consultant for the Ministry of Health of Kinshasa during his holidays. He was notably consulted for the establishment of national health accounts to study the financial flow in this sector. It is therefore with great honour that, in December 2016, he accepted to respond to the call of his motherland to contribute to the improvement of living conditions of the Congolese population in a sector that he is truly passionate about.

His medical background and experience have strengthened his belief that no initiative can succeed if it doesn’t put the human being at its heart, this includes African development. And this is exactly what he is striving to do as the Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr ILUNGA is also Founding Chairman of Galuni Consulting Associates S.A, a Strategy and Global Affairs consultancy focused on Africa.
